OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Supernovas setter Natalia Valentín-Anderson was named to the Athletes Unlimited All-Position Team after she led the Supernovas in the final week of the AU season in Arizona.
The Puerto Rican Olympian was the standout setter of the Athletes Unlimited season with a position-high 10th place finish, which led all Supernovas. Valentín-Anderson finished Week Five with a bang distributing 46 assists with 16 digs and one ace as part of Team (Dani) Drews lone win of the week. She stood out among all AU setters, leading with 549 assists—87 more than former Supernova Sydney Hilley, who finished in second place. Valentín-Anderson also led all setters in assists per set (11.93), digs (178), digs per set (3.87) and kills (20) while being second in aces (5) and third in blocks (8).
2024 Omaha team captain Brooke Nuneviller ended AU with 481 points to lead all Supernovas for Week Five while finishing 18th overall. Her best match of the week came on Nov. 1 when she was voted the No. 3 match MVP with 13 kills (.380) and 18 digs in Team (Madi) Kingdon Rishel’s win over Team (Bethania) De La Cruz-Meíja. Nuneviller ended her time in Arizona sixth in both kills (160) and kills per set (3.48) while leading all attackers in digs (165) and digs per set (3.59).
National Champion and former Nebraska Volleyball middle blocker Kayla Caffey finished her second AU season in 21st place but remained one of the best blockers at the net throughout the five weeks. The Illinois native tied for third in the league with 31 blocks. She tied Orlando Valkyries middle blocker Kaz Brown for the most blocks amongst PVF players and was one of only four participants with 30 or more blocks. She was dangerous from the service line as well, leading all middle blockers with eight aces, which was also fifth overall. She also added 1.43 kills per set on .290 hitting percentage.
Kelsie Payne wrapped up her first pro season in the United States at 27th overall but was severely limited in playing time during Week Five due to being drafted by AU Champion and fellow opposite Brittany Abercrombie. She still averaged 2.41 kills per set on a .240 clip with 2.34 digs per set and 10 blocks.
In total, the Supernovas earned 9,196 points with an average of 2,299 points per player, which was the third-highest average of the seven Pro Volleyball Federation teams who had players competing at AU. Omaha also earned seven match MVPs with Nuneviller leading the batch with three. Caffey earned two Match MVPS and was the only one to be voted for a No. 1 Match MVP. Payne and Valentín-Anderson each had one.
Supernovas assistant coach Thomas Robson was the facilitator for Team De La Cruz-Meíja in the final week, going 2-1. Robson finished the AU season with an overall record of 6-9.
All five Supernovas will return to Omaha as they prepare for the upcoming 2025 season, which is set to begin with Banner Night at the CHI Health Center on Friday, January 10 against the Atlanta Vibe.
