Rise Mom of the Month
November: Sue Fish
Nominated by James Fish: "Sue has coached volleyball with me for 35 years and all of them have been on a volunteer basis. That is a lot of free time devoted to helping youth in our area excel at in a sport that has given our family so much. She is an expert setting coach and has trained two Michigan Miss Volleyball winners and several athletes who have earned all-state honors and moved on to play at the collegiate level including our daughter, Sam Erger, who is now the head coach at Southern Methodist University and our daughter, Jordan Fish, who is the head coach at Dallas Baptist University. She continues to work with our youth players while spending as much time possible with our 8 grandchildren. She sends weekly text mesages to our players encouraging them in the sport and as young women. She works with our setters in the off-season because they continually ask for her help and she does this for free. She is a special person and deserves to be recognized for decades of growing players and the game."
October: Lynn Rosendale
Nominated by Kayla Bruinsma: "Lynn Rosendale has been a staple in the volleyball community for many many years! From playing in college at Calvin as an all american, to then coaching at Grace Bible college and bringing them a national championship, to then coaching club volleyball for MVA for 10+ years, to now this year becoming a referee for the MHSAA for both boys and girls volleyball - she is and has always been a champion for the sport! She coached both of her daughters club teams, and now is beginning to introduce the sport to her 5 young grandsons! She is a selfless mother, and an outstanding grandma, spending most of her time outside of refereeing taking care of her grandsons weekly and spending time with her family. No one is more deserving of being honored in this way - she is a volleyball icon and has truly made an impact for many young women in the West Michigan community in advancing their love and knowledge of the sport for many, many years. As her daughter, I would be endlessly grateful for her to be selected for the volleyball mom of the month!"
December: Lois Doyle
Nominated by Cheyenne Wright: "My mom is 76 years old, she has always been my number advocate and support in volleyball. I would spend hours in the gym watching her play volleyball with her friends. For years she had spent countless hours watching me play and travel and now she comes to my games where I coach varsity volleyball. Her 2 grand daughters ( 3rd & 5th grade) who adore her are now playing club and you can find her at many of the games cheering them on. She is my best friend, and the best mom a girl could ask for."
January: Abbi Hess
Nominated by Charlie Hess: "Abbi is an amazing mom! She is selfless, caring, charismatic, and goes above and beyond every single day. We have three beautiful children, Molly(4), Peyton(2), and Camden(5 months). Abbi works full time, yet brings the energy home every day. It doesnāt matter how her day was, or our day, she is going to make us all feel happy and excited to be home. I coach football in the fall, and am goneā¦a lot. Abbi never complains, always takes care of the house and kids without animosity. The way she pushes our kids to be great is a joy to watch, her and Molly are already working to build her volleyball skills, as she wants to play for the Rise one day. Abbi is a huge volleyball fan, watching on tv, and in person. She also plays recreationally every Monday. This selection would be an amazing surprise for Abbi and she would be absolutely thrilled to be selected. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Go Rise! Charlie Hess"
February: Tracy Sterling
Nominated by Ray Sterling: "She has coached volleyball for 25+ years. Throughout the years, she has taken on the mom role for many former players. She is currently a club coach at Next Level (15 Onyx) and is driven to make each player better every time they are together. On top of this, she is a mother to 6 kids and a grandma to 2 grandchildren. When she is not taking kids to practices, games, other events, she is planning practices for her club team, traveling to events on weekends and also being an amazing Mom and Wife. Just this year we became season ticket holders for the GR Rise, and we love it."
