SAN DIEGO (Feb. 9, 2026) – After dropping the opening set, San Diego Mojo surged past first-place Indy Ignite, winning three straight to secure a 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-15 victory Monday night at Viejas Arena.
Setter Marlie Monserez continued her standout season, recording her team-record eighth consecutive double-double with 44 assists and 10 digs. Monserez was also highly efficient offensively, collecting six kills on seven attempts (.857 hitting), while distributing the offense evenly as seven Mojo players finished with at least five kills.
Outside hitters Shannon Scully and rookie Hayden Kubik led San Diego with 10 points apiece. Scully finished with six kills, a match-high four blocks and 11 digs, while Kubik posted a team-high nine kills to go with one block and five digs. Libero Shara Venegas added 14 digs and four assists.
Middle blocker Marin Grote contributed two service aces, marking her second consecutive season reaching double digits from the service line. Her 10 aces this year are tied for the sixth-most in a single season in Mojo history.
Indy scored first and the teams traded points through the early stages, but San Diego built a 16-11 lead into the technical timeout behind kills from Jovana Brakočević and Grace Loberg, along with a Grote service ace. Despite a 19-13 advantage forcing an Indy timeout, the visitors rallied late, trimming the lead to 21-20 before a back-and-forth finish. Indy closed out the frame on a 5-0 run to take the set 25-23.
The Mojo bounced back in the second, trading leads with Indy before breaking through with a 5-0 run featuring a Loberg kill, a McKenna Vicini block, a Monserez quick attack, and two Indy errors to move ahead 10-6. San Diego held a narrow advantage late in the set, with Scully’s block and kill giving the home team set point at 24-23. Scully delivered again to win the set 25-23, tying the match.
The third set was tightly contested, with Indy jumping to a mid-set lead of 18-14. San Diego responded with a three-point run capped by a Kubik kill and tied the score at 21-21 after an Indy service error and strong attacks from Taylor Sandbothe. San Diego seized control in the final points, with Kubik putting the team at set point at 24-22 and closing the set 25-22.
San Diego dominated from the start in the fourth set, taking an early 3-1 lead with a Kayla Caffey kill, a Monserez swing, and a Caffey ace. The Mojo extended the margin with strong net play from Sandbothe and Kubik, pushing ahead 16-9 at the technical timeout. San Diego maintained control down the stretch, with Caffey delivering back-to-back blocks and a Kubik kill putting the Mojo at match point, closing the set out with an Indy error for a 25-15 win.
The win marked San Diego’s second straight and moved the Mojo to 3-6 overall and 3-2 at home, climbing into sixth place in the standings. Indy fell to 6-2.
The Mojo next head on the road for a matchup with the Grand Rapids Rise on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 4 p.m. PT, before traveling to Indianapolis for a rematch with the Ignite on Sunday, Feb. 15, at noon PT.
