MATCHUP STORYLINES
San Diego travels to Van Andel Arena looking to extend its two-game winning streak, though the Mojo are still searching for their first road victory of the season at 0–4. Grand Rapids has dropped its last four matches since a 3–1 win in San Diego on Jan. 23, when the Rise opened with a 31–29 first-set win.

The Mojo continue to grow under first-year head coach Alisha Childress, with standout performances from Marlie Monserez, Grace Loberg, Shara Venegas, and Marin Grote. San Diego’s balanced offense, anchored by Monserez, Loberg, Jovana Brakočević, Maya Tabron, and rookie Hayden Kubik, is complemented by league-leading backcourt defense led by Venegas.

The Rise return home with an experienced lineup, featuring Alexis Shelton, Paige Briggs-Romine, and Rhamat Alhassan, who provide scoring and front-row presence. Grand Rapids has played two five-set matches this season and continues to rely on balanced contributions across its roster, including libero Elena Oglivie and setter Saige Ka’aha’aina-Torres.

Statement Win at Home: The San Diego Mojo earned their second straight victory with a four-set win over league-leading Indy Ignite, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-15, improving to 3-2 at Viejas Arena and climbing into sixth place in the standings. After dropping a tight opening set, San Diego responded by winning three straight, closing the match with a dominant fourth-set performance.

Monserez Driving the Offense: Setter Marlie Monserez extended her franchise-record double-double streak to eight straight in the win over Indy and continues to rank among the league’s elite. She is second in total assists (375) and fifth in assists per set (10.14), while also ranking eighth in total digs (113) and 10th in digs per set (3.05). Offensively, Monserez leads the league in hitting efficiency (45.0%) and ranks fourth in kill percentage (46.7%), underscoring her efficiency as both a facilitator and scorer.

Loberg Filling the Stat Sheet: Grace Loberg remains one of the league’s most versatile players, ranking fifth in total points (131) and eighth in points per set (3.74). She is seventh in total kills (110) and 10th in kills per set (3.14), tied for fourth in total service aces (10), tied for eighth in aces per set (0.23), and ninth in both total digs (108) and digs per set (3.09).

Grote’s Presence at the Net and Service Line: Middle blocker Marin Grote is tied for ninth in total blocks (15) and ranks 10th in blocks per set (0.44). From the service line, she has been one of the league’s most dangerous players, tied for second in total aces (10) and tied for third in aces per set (0.29).

Venegas Anchors the Back Row: Libero Shara Venegas ranks third in both total digs (133) and digs per set (3.69), providing steady serve receive and defensive consistency that extends rallies and stabilizes the floor defense.

Brakočević’s All-Around Impact: Opposite hitter Jovana Brakočević continues to provide offensive production and serving pressure, tied for eighth in total service aces (7) and tied for eighth in aces per set (0.23), delivering in key stretches.

Efficiency in the Middle: McKenna Vicini ranks fourth in hitting efficiency (36.8%) and seventh in kill percentage (42.6%).

GRAND RAPIDS RISE OUTLOOK
Seeking a Spark Against San Diego: Grand Rapids enters the matchup aiming to stop a four-match losing streak, with their last win occurring against San Diego on January 23. In that 3-1 victory, the Rise hit .277 and captured a 31-29 opening set before taking control of the match.

League Leaders Driving Production:

  • Setter Saige Ka’aha’aina-Torres ranks fourth in the league in assists per set at 10.52 and sixth in total assists with 326, anchoring the Rise offense.
  • Carli Snyder ranks ninth in the league with 89 kills and 10th in kills per set at 3.18 despite missing the last three matches. She recently moved into second place in franchise history with 404 career kills, trailing only Claire Chaussee at 429. Snyder also holds team records for points with 487, aces with 37 and attack attempts with 1,330.
  • Middle blocker Rhamat Alhassan is tied for third in the league with 22 total blocks and ranks third in blocks per set at 0.73, giving Grand Rapids one of the top front row defensive presences in MLV.

Home Court Trends: Grand Rapids is 1-2 at home this season and 14-15 all time at Van Andel Arena. The Rise are 5-2 in three set matches at home and 6-4 in five set matches but 3-9 in four set contests.
