Get-to-Know Player Spotlight: Shannon Shields

ATLANTA, Ga. (October 2, 2025) – The Atlanta Vibe officially announced the signing of setter Shannon Shields on August 7th, adding a dynamic playmaker to the roster for the 2026 Major League Volleyball season. A Phoenix native, Shields brings a blend of elite collegiate experience and international professional success to Atlanta.

From 2020 to 2023, Shields competed collegiately at Arizona State University, leaving an indelible mark on the program. In her final season in 2023, Shields led the Sun Devils to their first Sweet Sixteen appearance since 1995 — only the third in program history. She racked up 39 aces and 1,239 assists in her final season, holding the 10^th highest single-season assists total in the program. At ASU, Shields earned AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, AVCA All-Region, and Pac-12 Honorable Mention honors in 2023.

After her standout college career, Shields launched her professional journey overseas, competing with SL Benfica in Portugal during the 2023–24 season, followed by a stint with Infomaniak Genève Volley in Switzerland in 2024–25. After two seasons playing abroad, Shields gained valuable experience competing against top-tier international talent, sharpening her decision-making and elevating her game as she returns to the U.S. ready to lead the Vibe offense.

Off the court, Shields loves to pursue varying crafty hobbies, spending time painting, cooking, baking and more! She’s a talented watercolor artist, known for her intricate and expressive pieces. In her free time, she enjoys creating colorful, wholesome pictures, one of her favorites being a charismatic elephant pictured below. She also has a love for baking, a passion sparked by the apple tree in her childhood backyard — her signature dessert is a homemade apple crisp. Collecting fresh ingredients from her backyard, Shields loves to whip up a tasty apple dessert in her spare time. On her competitive side, Shields participates in many varying card showdowns with her family, never shying away from a little family game night. Having never lost in a game of Blackjack, she credits her “lucky gene” to her Vegas roots on her father’s side.

When she’s not painting, baking, or playing cards, Shields enjoys golfing, reading, and chasing thrills on rollercoasters. The Vibe are thrilled to bring in Shields’ mix of competitiveness, creativity, and charisma to the team for the 2026 season!
