On Saturday night, the league’s top ranked defense vs. the top ranked offense will be on full display as the Omaha Supernovas (14-5) will host the Orlando Valkyries (12-8) in what will be a thrilling matchup. This will be the fourth and final matchup between these two teams this season, with Orlando currently 2-1 in the season series.
Keys to the Match for Orlando:
Controlling the serve: In their last two matches, Orlando has totaled 18 service errors combined, with only one service ace to show. However, in the last two meetings vs. Omaha, the Valkyries delivered 17 total service aces. How Orlando controls the serve will be an interesting little piece to watch for.
Staying aggressive: In three out of their last four losses, Orlando has failed to hit above a .200 efficiency. Despite the recent misfortunes, Orlando still ranks number one in the league in efficiency, highlighting just how potent this offense is when everything clicks. The Valkyries are 12-3 on the season when they finish over that .200 mark in a match.
Valkyries Players to Watch:
Lindsey Vander Weide (Outside Hitter): Vander Weide comes into this matchup after recording a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs vs. Indy on Sunday. Back on March 15 against Omaha, Lindsey recorded nine kills in a limited role, which could be foreshadowing for her to have a big day on Saturday.
Courtney Schwan (Outside Hitter): Schwan has simply been phenomenal this season, ranking sixth in the league with 238 digs. Posting a career-high 17 kills vs. Indy, and having six double-doubles this year, Schwan will aim to carry that momentum and continue providing a spark on both sides of the court.
By the numbers: Orlando is 6-3 when they record more than nine blocks in a single match
Supernovas Players to Watch:
Natalia Valentin-Anderson (Setter): The reigning PVF Player of the Week, Valentin-Anderson put up 80 assists this past week, including a double-double where she recorded 41 assists and 20 digs against the Grand Rapids Rise. Setters are known for being the quarterbacks in volleyball and Valentin-Anderson does that with the best of them.
Kayla Caffey (Middle Blocker): Caffey has a recorded a hitting efficiency over .400 in six straight matches, showcasing her ability to take advantage of opportunities when her number is called upon. She also ranks ninth with 13 service aces on the season, which could be a sneaky factor in stealing some points for Omaha.
By the numbers: Omaha is 3-4 when they record less than six blocks in a match.
