HEAD COACH ÁNGEL PÉREZ
Opening Statement …
“You know, we faced the second best team in the league and you know their quality. I thought we could beat it, but we were undisciplined with what we proposed with our game plan. At the end of the day, that is their game and they dominated us over there, higher efficiency, percentage, and they created more opportunities for them. They were more precise on getting out of bad situations that we were. We got through them with our serve and putting them in high pressure situations that they could solve better than us today. And I think at the end of the day that was the key for them to go out with the victory.”
On Omaha’s firepower …
“Yeah, I think what we did best today was our serve. We have been working on that pretty hard and we put them in difficult situations. We just couldn't take advantage of the situations that we put them in. I thought, like you said, they have a lot of firepower, I saw. We were undisciplined in our block giving a lot of hands. Instead of pressing on discipline of where we should be positioned to block their left side, especially. A lot of balls inside that we were overrunning and a lot of balls that arrived that were short. So, those are things that we want to continue to do better. And hopefully next time around we have a better solution for their left sites, which, at the end of the day, when it really matters, that's where they end up. On the third set, all of the balls went to their left sides. When they were down 16-13 on that second set, they started giving both to the left side. So hopefully we have a better adjustment next time around and we can control their outside's a little bit better.”
On looking ahead …
“We got to go back to the drawing board, go back to finding our game, you know, trying to find solutions for our attack. Especially, putting our hitters in, in better situations with balls that are hittable balls that they can make decisions. I think that is something that we've been talking about. The last three weeks, it was getting a little bit better. It's been starting to get crappy and loose a little bit, so hopefully we can go back, have some two, three good trainings before our trip to Orlando, and have to put a good fight there in Orlando, against the top team in the league. You know what? We're going to face a great center, great opposite just like we saw today. So hopefully this gives us a perspective of what we're going to face on Saturday. So again, back to training, back to working hard, back to trying to get better and figure out what's next for us.”
KAYLEE COX, #8, OH
On her game today and being a starter …
“I know I kind of started off a little bit slow, kind of just suggesting to the bigger block in front of me and just finding ways to score was a little bit difficult at the start, but then figuring out that I need to swing high and go for the rafters basically. I think my setters and I were in a good rhythm tonight and just found open holes and swung for high hands.”
RAINA TERRY, #16, OH
On her blocks and Emily Londot …
“Emily is a great player and I have so much respect for her. We’ve played together and against each other for 10 years now and she's a great person too, and I don't know, playing against her, for past 10 years, and always being pitted against each other. I think I know her arm swing pretty well. So, that makes my job a little bit easier and I know where to line up and what her tendencies are, but she's, she's a great player. She is very difficult to block. I just like to think I know her pretty well.”
