The Vegas Thrill (7-4) lost their second straight match in a sweep.
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Vegas Thrill (7-4) lost their second straight match in a sweep (15-25, 21-25, 17-25) against the Orlando Valkyries (8-4) on Thursday night at Addition Financial Arena. This is the first time Orlando has beaten Vegas this season and the Valkyries have now won six straight matches.
Set 1
Vegas' Camryn Hannah and Berkeley Oblad set the stage with back-to-back kills to put the Thrill up 2-0. Hannah notched another kill to stop Orlando's 2-0 run and cut the deficit to a pair, 10-8. Orlando's Natalie Foster, the league leader in service aces and service aces per set, posted her first of the match to put the Valkyries up 14-8 as Vegas was forced to call a timeout. The Valkyries kept their momentum throughout the second half of the opening set as Brittany Abercrombie came through with her sixth kill of the set to put them up seven 20-13. Orlando took care of business to come away with the 25-15 set one victory as Abercrombie tallied eight kills and a .727 hitting percentage and held the Thrill to a .062 tilt.
Set 2
Foster of Orlando got set two underway with her third kill of the match. Vegas tied the set, 6-6, with a key kill from Charitie Luper and a Hannah block. Abercrombie went back to work with her ninth kill of the match for an 11-9 Orlando cushion. Furthermore, the seventh year pro earned her 11th double-kill performance of the season to put the Valkyries up 13-9. Abercrombie continued to dial it in with her 11th kill of the match to put Orlando up 16-10 heading into the media timeout. Vegas' Oblad stopped the momentum with her second kill of the set, however, Orlando setter Pornpun Guedpard posted an impressive kill to put them up 17-11. Vegas trimmed the deficit to three, 19-16, but it was all Valkyries from there as they earned a 25-21 set two victory. Abercrombie and Courtney Schwan both tallied five kills apiece, while Adora Ane posted five digs.
Set 3
Vegas had six two-point leads and were up 10-8 before Orlando handled business where they went on a 4-0 run to go up 12-10. The Valkyries went on another 4-0 run for a 16-11 advantage and went up by five, 19-14, after a Foster kill. Another five point lead saw Orlando run saw them go up 21-16 and they collected the 25-17 win to complete the sweep. Schwan grabbed another five kills, while Guedpard tallied six digs.
Key Stats
The Valkyries were paced by Abercrombie's 16 kills, .536 hitting percentage, three digs, one service ace and one block. Guedpard put together 32 assists, 10 digs, one kill and one solo block, while Schwan posted 10 kills, five digs, one assist and one solo block. On the defense side of the ball, Anae tallied 11 digs.
The Thrill were led by Alisha Childress' 30 assists and six digs, while 13 players collected digs in the match. Vegas was held to a .130 hitting percentage and Hannah Maddux recorded a team-high nine kills.
