Columbus Fury vs. Orlando Valkyries Post-Game Quotes

HEAD COACH ÁNGEL PÉREZ

Opening Statement …

“Unfortunate that we couldn’t at least take this game to five sets and grab a point. I thought we had a phenomenal start. I think the first set today was the best time we've played this year as a team. The numbers show. I thought after that first set, even the second set we lost there 26-24, but I thought after the first set, we lost a little bit of the aggressiveness, which we presented at the beginning of the game, especially from our service line. After that, they got in a rhythm, their center was playing pretty comfortable and she's a high level setter that clearly put us in difficulty and we couldn't find an answer after. I thought we had a really nice game plan against a really good team. We executed it five times well and then when we didn't execute that and things didn't go our way but overall positive things from this game. Again, I believe on paper that is one of the best teams in the league and we played head-to-head with them for most of the game. I thought today, positive things for us. Our mistakes went down from what we usually are producing. Our point production was up from what we were usually producing in the games before. So, we're gonna take the smallest wins and build on that. We would have love to take this game to at least five but again, that's a great team and they did their adjustments and we're couldn’t find a solution after that.”

On facing Vegas ...

“I think we got to go back to the film and see the good things that we did today and try to build on that again. We should watch that first set again and see all the great things that we did and keep believing that we have a group that when they perform and when we're in good rhythm, we can go compete against everybody. Yes, Vegas has got a great start of the season, they got phenomenal players, we'll go through the scouting, try to prepare a good game plan for our players, but again, we're looking at our side of the net and trying to get better on this small things. I think we need to be more disciplined however long it takes through the game and we need to remain aggressive from the service line, and in attack, like we were on the first set. I've been telling this for a while, the name of the game is attack. The team that attacks the most usually wins the set and that's what happened today. We were better than them in attack on the first set, better than them on the second set that we lost there at the at the end and then they were better than us on the last two sets. So we’ll go back, watch some film of Vegas but mainly focus on our side, the good things that we did today and try to build on that and accept the challenge again of facing the top team in the league and go out there without nothing to lose and a lot to gain.”

RAINA TERRY, #16, OH

On her good opening set …

“I think everybody was in a rhythm and when everybody does their job and takes responsibility for their zone, I think we all do really good and that definitely showed in the first set. That's why I think I would say what a fight, and why I had so much success too is because everybody was helping me out a lot.”

KATE GEORGIADES, #7, LIB.

On answering the call to start tonight …

“It's an awesome feeling and everyone was being really, really supportive which is all that you can ask for and for someone who has to step into this role, everyone was just helping me on the sideline every time out. Every time I came off, they would just tell me what they see and that's all you can ask from teammates.”
