COLUMBUS, Ohio—Ahead of the Pro Volleyball Federation's Collegiate Draft November 25th, we asked Columbus Fury Head Coach Angel Perez three questions before he makes his first pick to round out the 2025 roster.
- What do you think of this year's draft class? I think this draft class is fairly deep in talent. The fact that there are basically two classes in one, because of the COVID year, makes it a really talented class in all positions. There are players that fit all different kinds of systems, so it will be interesting to see how this draft unfolds.
- What are you looking for in a player? Here in Columbus, we are trying to find players with a high skill set and a good understanding of the game. We are looking for players who move well and read the game at a high level. In addition to that, it won't hurt that they possess a good reach in attack and block. We are looking for either big strong players who can impose themselves at the net, or players who can generate volume and give our team second chances.
- What is your strategy going into draft? Our strategy going into the draft is to be as prepared as possible knowing the position we have in the draft. It is important for us to do good research to find the best player to fit our needs. We are doing our due diligence to find those players. It is important also for us to take everything into consideration; we want to be able to select a player who will enjoy playing in Columbus and our league.
The Fury drew the third pick in the second round and will have the 11th, 18th, 32nd, and 36th overall selections. The draft will consist of five rounds. The draft will consist of five rounds.
