San Diego Mojo select four players in 2024 PVF Draft

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Mojo, San Diego’s major league women’s volleyball team, selected four players in the 2024 Pro Volleyball Federation Draft on Monday, highlighted by Wisconsin opposite Devyn Robinson, who was chosen with the fifth overall pick in the first round. The Mojo rounded out the day selecting outside hitter Maya Tabron in the third round with the 23rd overall pick, middle blocker Leyla Blackwell in the fourth round with the 26th overall pick, and opposite Elise McGhee in the fifth round with the 34th overall pick.

A three-time AVCA All-American, Robinson has appeared in 141 matches and 491 sets for Wisconsin, totaling 1,181 kills (2.41/set) with a .339 hitting percentage, while adding 492 total blocks, 170 digs, 13 assists and eight service aces. In 26 matches and 88 sets this season, she has a hitting percentage of .354, tallying 164 kills, eight service aces, four assists, 88 total blocks and 31 digs.

Robinson was selected to the AVCA All-America third team in 2020 and 2022, while earning honorable mention accolades in 2023. She is a four-time All-Big Ten honoree, twice collecting first-team accolades (2020, ’22) and second team honors (2021, ’23). The Cleveland, Ohio native won gold with USA Volleyball as a part of the 2020 U.S. Collegiate National Team. She was a member of the 2018 and 2019 USA Volleyball Girls Youth National Team, winning gold medals at the 2018 NORCECA Championship in Honduras and 2019 World Under 18 Championships in Egypt, while being tabbed the Best Blocker in the 2019 tournament.

Maya Tabron has guided SMU to one of the finest seasons in program history, helping the Mustangs to a 23-6 record, including an upset victory of second-ranked Nebraska in September. On the year, she has appeared in 29 matches with 103 sets played, leading the team with 260 digs, 2.52 digs per set and 11 double-doubles. The Gilroy, Calif. native has also tallied 62 blocks, 26 assists and 32 service aces while totaling 381.5 points. Before arriving in Dallas, Tabron played four seasons at Colorado, earning Team Offensive MVP honors in 2022 and twice collecting honorable mention All-Pac-12 accolades (2021, ’23). In Boulder, she appeared in 106 matches (369 sets), posting 1,083 kills, 71 assists, 79 aces, 790 digs and 1,275 points.

San Diego native Leyla Blackwell currently plays at Nebraska where she has appeared in 11 matches (20 sets), averaging 2.45 kills per set and a 0.444 hitting percentage. Prior to joining the Huskers, Blackwell was a three-time All-WCC first team honoree at San Diego (2021-23), guiding the Toreros to the 2022 NCAA Semifinals, the first NCAA Final Four appearance in program history. That season, she established USD single-season record with 152 block assists, while her 176 total blocks are second. As freshman in 2020-21, she appeared in 18 matches at Indiana, leading the team in blocking (61 blocks, 0.94 per set).

Elise McGhee has spent four seasons playing at Baylor University, earning All-Big 12 First Team honors in 2023. During her career with the Bears, McGhee has played in 100 matches (339 sets), tallied 1.081 kills (3.19/set) and has been a force on the service line with 168 aces. She has added 328 digs and 163 blocks while totaling 1,240.50 points. The San Antonio native was named to the 2021 Big 12 All-Freshman Team and earned CSC Academic All-District and Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors in 2022 and 2023.

The San Diego Mojo open its 2025 home schedule at Viejas Arena on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 7:05 p.m. against the Orlando Valkyries. The Mojo will play all 14 home matches at Viejas Arena on the campus of SDSU, as well as 14 road matches during the 2025 campaign.
