COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Columbus Fury picked outside hitter Raina Terry from the University of Illinois as the third pick in the second round of the 2024 PVF Collegiate Draft held on Monday, November 25 exclusively on the PVF's YouTube channel. The Ohio native paced the team in 2023 with 539 kills and 4.69 kills per set.
“We needed a big arm on the outside with a big presence on block. I feel like we got that with Rena,” said Fury Head Coach Angel Perez. “She is the top scorer in the Big Ten and the cherry on top she is a native of (Marengo) Ohio.”
The Fury chose outside hitter Kaylee Cox from Western Kentucky University as their second pick, the 18th overall. The 6'3" Texas native began her college career at Missouri before transferring to WKU as a junior. That year, she competed in all 35 matches and collected her 1,000th career kill. Cox nailed 454 kills in the 2024 season.
“We are in the process of adding size to our team, and Kaylee is one of the strongest pin hitters in the draft class,” said Coach Perez. “She is a well-rounded player, with a high IQ, and low error rate.”
The Fury chose middle blocker Abby Walker from the University of Cincinnati in the fourth round, the 32nd overall pick. Another Ohio native, Walker was named the Freshman of the Year in the ACC.
“Abby is a steal in the draft,” said Coach Perez. “We were looking for a middle that could move side-to-side quickly and Abby fits the mode. We’re also excited to have another native of (Cambridge) Ohio on our roster.”
Libero Kate Georgiades from the University of Houston was the Fury's final pick in the fifth round. The 5'9" College Station, Texas native was named the 2023 Big 12 Conference Libero of the Year. She played her freshman year at TCU before transferring to Houston in 2021.
“Kate is a terrific defender with a great ability to read and react to the game,” said Coach Angel Perez. “She is a proven winner and a fearless competitor. We are excited to have her.”
The Fury’s first round pick was traded to Atlanta for Tori Dilfer-Stringer mid-season last season. The Fury had the 11th, 18th, 32nd, and 36th overall selections.
