Beyond the Match: Atlanta Vibe’s Fashion Culture

ATLANTA, Ga. (Oct. 18, 2024) - The Atlanta Vibe are not only making a statement on the court but also in the city with their outfits. From easy-going athleisure to bold streetwear to trend-setting chicness, the Vibe are not afraid to show off their personal style. 

There is a wide spectrum of what will debut on gameday. Even just a classic, oversized sweatshirt and shorts, or a simple tennis dress, remind us that classics are here for a reason. Some may go with a matching set, a look that's timelessly classy.  

KEEPING IT CASUAL 

A casual but comfy fit can be a popular choice for gameday. During the colder months, some players gravitate towards an oversized sweatshirt with a loose pair of jeans styled with a classic boot or sneakers. Vintage sweatshirts are a perfect way to blend intentional style with soft, wearable materials. 

Karis Watson dives into her own unique style on gameday, “most of the time it’s something thrifted, but generally I just like to keep it colorful and fun,” said Watson. Reminiscing on the season, Watson points out her favorite outfits, styling a pair of overalls complimented a blue and black sweater: “I felt comfy and the sweater was a Goodwill find which I was super excited about,” said Watson.  

Keeping it comfy and cute is a staple for the Vibe. Watson mentions that choosing an outfit is usually a game time decision, but, “when you know you know.” She takes careful consideration for determining her fit, saying she picks “whatever feels good at the moment, which can change multiple times in a single morning.” 

PUMP UP THE OUTFIT  

A common trend throughout the season is a balance between being stylish and being comfortable. One recipe for success: well-fitting jeans, a trendy top, and an eye-catching pair of kitten heels. Shelly Fanning's vivid red heels brought her black two-piece set to a whole new level, pairing her outfit with bold red shoes.  

No matter the outfit, a simple pump can bring a sense of elegance to a look. Leah Edmond recalls one of her favorite looks: a black sheer top with wide-leg cargo pants to go along with her YSL heels. When it comes to deciding on an outfit, Edmond elaborates and says that she brainstorms in her downtime, “most of the time I’ll see something in my closet and be like ‘that would be super cute’ and I write it down so I don’t forget.”

THEME PARTIES  

Arrivals were sometimes led not by individual expression, but by the player's interpretation of a chosen theme. A standout arrival moment was when a group of players stepped out in their custom Atlanta United jerseys, a nod to their recent recognition. With personalized names and numbers, they showcased the Vibe’s pride for the city of Atlanta.

On April 28th, players took us back to their college days and repped their alma maters. Whether it was a varsity jacket, a hoodie, or a throwback tee, the stylish pieces were paired with a fashionable jean skirt or casual shorts.

REPPIN’ THE A 

Even just sporting an Atlanta Vibe sweatsuit has become a classic look for the team. The grey or black matching set, proudly featuring our team's logo, can be dressed up with a pair of sunglasses or vibrant sneakers. These looks still exude confidence from the girls. With an array of options to represent the Vibe, the players stick to a consistent aesthetic that shows their passion for the sport and their teammates. 

FINAL TOUCHES  

Adding the simplest accessories can be a difference-maker when it comes to styling an outfit. Fanning is a prime example of this: her neon green sunglasses coordinated with her pale green shorts, and she tied the look together with a Tory Burch belt bag. A belt bag can bring both style and functionality, making it perfect to transform a basic outfit into something chic. Similarly to Watson, Shelly Fanning likes “to choose [her] outfit based on what makes [her] feel confident that day, having each gameday look a little different.”  

Kamaile Hiapo loves to add personal touches to her outfit. Rocking a long creamed-colored dress, she accessorized with a Pua, a hibiscus native to Hawaii, and a bracelet given to her from her family at the Pro Volleyball Federation Awards Banquet in Omaha, NE earlier in May.  

Looking good on and off the court is something the Atlanta Vibe players do well. Their fashion choices --from sleek athletic wear to cohesive street styles --reflect their confidence and energy before, during and after playing volleyball. The motto, “look good, feel good, play good” is no secret when it comes to this team.
