An Emerging Sports City: Fury Head Coach Joins Panel Discussion About Columbus' Rising Profile

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Columbus Fury head coach Ángel Pérez joined a panel discussion Thursday at the Athletic Club of Columbus. He joined Columbus Crew General Manager Issa Tall, The Ohio State University Athletic Director Ross Bjork, former OSU quarterback Braxton Miller, and Memorial Tournament Executive Director Dan Sullivan to talk about the city's role as an emerging sports city. The conversation was moderated by NBC4 anchor Colleen Marshall.

"What we found here is the biggest asset of the city is the people of Columbus," said Coach Pérez, who will return for his second season with the Fury. A distinguished former international player himself, he said Columbus had been a welcome place both personally and professionally.

"The opportunity is there for me to develop my career and for my daughters to have a better opportunity in life to have a successful career in whatever they want to do," he added.

Greater Columbus Sister Cites of Columbus hosted the conversation. The organization works to position the area as a vibrant international region by collaborating with cities around the world through education, economic development, and arts and culture.

The Fury begin training for the 2025 season December 1.
