Valkyries Ends 2024 Inaugural Season On High Note

Several Orlando players amongst league leaders in multiple statistical categories

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Valkyries’ 2024 inaugural campaign came to an end after a three-set sweep of the Vegas Thrill on Saturday night at Addition Financial Arena.

“We had a really, really special group,” said Valkyries middle blocker Kaz Brown. “We love each other hard. I think the way we were able to end things tonight is really kind of a storybook finish. We really appreciate the fan support. We felt it in the arena tonight.”

The Valkyries (8-16), who started the season in January, finished No. 6 in the Pro Volleyball Federation Standings. Several players were amongst the league leaders in multiple statistical categories.

“I’m proud of everything that they’ve done this year,” said Valkyries coach Amy Pauly. “I’m so thankful to them as a group for showing up and practicing hard every day and for really doing a lot of what we asked them to do in such a short amount of time. I think the season was a grind — it was a whirlwind — and they still showed up every day.

“I know there’s a lot of learning lessons and a lot of growing personally for all of us, but I couldn’t have asked for a better group to go through it with. We’re just happy that we did it.”

Brown, who played in all 24 matches, finished second in the league in blocks with 68. She finished third in kill (0.443) and hitting (0.333) percentage.

“I’m only as good as my teammates, so I got in the gym every day and I was pushed to get better,” Brown said. “You can’t always block by yourself. I have really good company on either side of me, putting me in positions to have success.”

Valkyries outside hitter Adora Anae finished sixth in kills with 311. She also finished sixth in total points with 363. Anae tied for second in aces with teammate and setter Wilma Rivera, who both had 21. And defensively, she finished fifth in digs with 290.

“I like to play with passion; I feed off of energy from my teammates,” said Anae, who won the Pro Volleyball Federation Player of the Week for Week 3. “This is a special, special group, so I never had a moment where I felt like I was drowning. I felt so much abundance and so I didn’t really think of the numbers and that part of it. But I want to give the credit to my teammates for pushing me every day.”

Orlando rookie libero Georgia Murphy also led the league in digs with 379. She had a season-high of 32 digs in one match.

“Although we fell short this season of our expectations in the win and loss columns, we are very proud of the product we were able to put out there, both on and off the court,” said George Manias, President & CEO of the Valkyries. “Our fan experience and the atmosphere in our arena truly gave the team a homecourt advantage.

“We will look to strengthen our team this offseason to help further our goal to make a run at a championship next season.”
