MATCH TWENTY-FOUR PREVIEW – VALKYRIES VS THRILL

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Valkyries will take on the Vegas Thrill on Saturday, May 11 at 7 p.m. The match will take place at Addition Financial Arena and will be streamed on YouTube. This will be the fourth and final meeting between Orlando (7-16) and Vegas (8-15). The Valkyries lead the season series 2-1.

Valkyries Players to Watch:

Jill Gillen led the Valkyries in points (17) and kills (16) in the team’s last match against the San Diego Mojo. In 20 matches this season, Gillen is averaging 3.03 kills per set. The 5-foot-7 outside hitter was acquired via trade during the Pro Volleyball Federation inaugural draft. She attended the University of Arkansas where she made an impact immediately as an outside hitter and was selected to the SEC All-Freshmen Team. During the rest of her time with the Razorbacks, she was named to the AVCA All-South Region Team and the All-SEC Team three times each. 

Kaz Brown recorded 15 total points (14 kills and one block) against the Mojo. Brown has played in all of the Valkyries’ matches this season, averaging 12.48 points, 9.04 kills and 2.91 blocks. The 6-foot-4 middle blocker leads the Pro Volleyball Federation in blocks with 67. Brown has five years of professional volleyball experience, which included stops in Germany, France, Ukraine and Greece. Brown attended the University of Kentucky, where she was a standout player and earned three-time All-SEC and three-time AVCA All-Region honors. She ended her collegiate career as the Wildcats’ career record holder for total blocks, solo blocks, and block assists. Because of her standout play, Brown was selected to the US Collegiate National Team in 2016-17.

Thrill Players to Watch:

Hannah Maddux is averaging 11.95 points and 9.91 kills per match. In the Thrill’s last match against Orlando, she had 21 total points (17 kills, three aces and a block). Maddux, an outside hitter, was drafted by the Thrill with the 26th overall pick in the Pro Volleyball Federation's inaugural draft. She attended the University of South Alabama, where she led her team to the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Maddux ended her collegiate career third in the Sun Belt conference and 27th nationally in total kills, along with ranking third in the conference in total attacks.

Khat Bell is averaging 13.89 points, 11.58 kills and two blocks per match. Bell boasts season-highs of 30 points and 28 kills. In the last match versus the Valkyries, she recorded 19 total points (17 kills and two blocks). Bell is a night-year pro who plays the opposite hitter position. She is well accomplished overseas, winning MVP and Best Blocker of the Korean V-League. Bell played collegiately at the University of Texas, where she was a national champion in 2012. She is a three-time All-American, four-time Big-12 Champion with Texas and won the 2012 Cobra Magazine Defensive Player of the Year.
