Orlando suffers 0-3 (23-25, 21-25, 22-25) loss to Grand Rapids

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Valkyries suffered a 0-3 (23-25, 21-25, 22-25) loss to the Grand Rapids Rise on Thursday night at Addition Financial Arena.

Outside hitter Adora Anae led the Valkyries with 12 total points (nine kills, two blocks and an ace) in the contest. Full statistics for the match can be found here.

Set 1

Grand Rapids took the first set 25-23. The Rise scored first and built an early 9-2 lead. The Valkyries would make a comeback toward the end of the set. With Grand Rapids leading 20-14, the Valkyries cored four straight points to get to within two. Orlando would tie the set at 23-23 on an ace by outside hitter Carly Skjodt. The Rise, however, closed out the set with some stingy defense. Grand Rapids opposite hitter Emiliya Dimitrova led both teams with five kills in the set.

Set 2

The Rise continued its strong play and took the second set 25-21. Grand Rapids scored first, and the teams traded points early. The Rise built a three-point lead at 9-6 and led up until the Valkyries tied the set at 18-18. With the score tied at 20-20, Grand Rapids scored four straight points. The set ended in a service error by the Valkyries. Orlando opposite hitter Shainah Joseph had four kills, but Dimitrova led both teams with five kills in the set.

Set 3

The Rise completed the sweep by taking the third set 25-22. Valkyries started the set with some fiery play, but the Rise built a two-point advantage at 18-16. Orlando did not tie the set until 21-21, but Grand Rapids would then score three straight points. The Valkyries were not able to overcome the three-point deficit as the Rise closed out the set. Grand Rapids outside hitter Claire Chaussee led both teams with eight kills in the set.

The Valkyries (7-9) are back in action on Sunday, April 14, against the San Diego Mojo at 3 p.m. at Addition Financial Arena.
