ORLANDO, Fla.– The Orlando Valkyries put up a fight in a 1-3 (22-25, 20-25, 25-23, 17-25) loss to the league-leading Atlanta Vibe (17-5) on Sunday afternoon at Addition Financial Arena.
Opposite hitter Shainah Joseph led the Valkyries with 16 total points (15 kills and one ace) in the contest. Full statistics for the match can be found here.

Set 1
The Vibe took a tightly contested first set 25-22. Atlanta scored first and the two teams were neck-and-neck for most of the set. The Valkyries were the first to reach 20 and had a two-point advantage at 20-18. With the score tied at 22-22, Atlanta scored three straight points to win the set. Vibe opposite hitter Anna Lazareva led both teams with four kills in the set.
Set 2
Atlanta pulled away midway through the second set and won 25-20. The Valkyries scored the set’s first two points and jumped out to an early 4-1 lead. Atlanta tied the set at 8-8 and took the lead at 12-11. With the score tied at 13-13, the Vibe would go on a 6-1 run. Atlanta built its lead to six points and finished the set strong. Lazareva led both teams with nine kills in the set.
Set 3
Orlando made some crucial plays late and took the third set 25-23. The Valkyries scored the set’s first point. With the score tied at 2-2, Atlanta scored three consecutive points to lead 5-2. Orlando would take the lead at 15-14. With the score tied at 16-16, the Valkyries scored three straight points to lead 19-16. The Vibe tied the set at 20-20 and then took the lead on a Lazareva kill. Orlando regained the lead on a kill by outside hitter Skylar Fields, who also had the set-clinching kill.
Set 4
Atlanta took the fourth set convincingly 25-17. The Vibe jumped out to an early 4-1 lead and led for the remainder of the set. Atlanta led by as much as eight in the set. Lazareva had six kills in the set and finished the match with 30 total points (27 kills and three blocks).
The Valkyries (7-12) are back in action on Friday, April 26, against the Columbus Fury at 7 p.m. at Columbus’ Nationwide Arena.
