On the eve of its first match of the season on CBS Sports Network, Pro Volleyball Federation has announced that Paul Sunderland and Holly McPeak will handle commentary for the 2024 matches carried on the network.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better duo to tell the stories of the amazing players and teams in our league,” said Pro Volleyball Federation CEO Jen Spicher. “We have been fortunate to have had many talented broadcasters call our matches this year. Adding names like Paul Sunderland and Holly McPeak to lead that roster will take our broadcasts to the next level.”
A three-time beach volleyball Olympian for the United States, McPeak has been an analyst for the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship each of the last two years and the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship for the past eight seasons. A member of the International Volleyball Hall of Fame, she is a 20-year television analyst for the sport of volleyball.
McPeak competed in Olympic volleyball matches when the sport was introduced in 1996 in Atlanta and followed again at the 2000 Games in Sydney, Australia. She reached the medal stand in her next effort, capturing a Bronze Medal at the 2004 Games in Athens, Greece. The UCLA graduate led the Bruins to the NCAA Championship in 1990, earning All-Pac-10 First Team honors after setting a single-season assist record (2,192).
A veteran broadcaster and Olympic athlete, Sunderland has been a play-by-play announcer in both volleyball and basketball. He regularly calls ESPN’s coverage of the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship and is also a mainstay on ESPN’s Special Olympics telecasts.
Sunderland began his broadcasting career in 1985, boasting a 20-year stint as a NBA broadcaster that included a five-year tenure as the Los Angeles Lakers play-by-play voice. The two-time Emmy Award winner is a member of the USA Volleyball Hall of Fame, has been named USA Volleyball Player of the Year twice and earned an Olympic Gold Medal at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles.
Since that time, Sunderland has built one of the most versatile careers in sports broadcasting. He has covered the Summer Games for NBC since 1992 and will do so again with his 10th Games this coming summer in Paris.
