San Diego Mojo activate opposite Willow Johnson

SAN DIEGO (April 18, 2024) – The San Diego Mojo today announced that the team has activated opposite Willow Johnson for the remainder of the 2024 Pro Volleyball Federation season.

Johnson, who participated in preseason training camp, rejoins the Mojo after spending three months with the Heungkuk Life Pink Spiders in South Korea, where the lefty helped guide the club to a runner-up finish in the V-League.

“I am excited to have Willow Johnson and the versatility that she adds to our roster return to San Diego Mojo,” said Mojo head coach Tayyiba Haneef-Park. “Her experience and range provide flexibility in various game scenarios as we make a push for playoff contention. Whether it's contributing defensively or offensively, Willow consistently demonstrates an ability to excel wherever she is needed. She is joining us fresh off a successful season in Korea and I look forward to her continued contributions to our success in this final push for playoffs.”

Prior to playing with the Pink Spiders, Johnson competed with Athletes Unlimited from 2021-23, registering 242 kills, 130 digs, three assists and five services aces in 63 sets played.

Johnson played for Nilufer Belediyespor in Turkey during the 2020-21 season, appearing in 48 sets and recording 101 kills.

The Paradise Valley, Ariz. native played collegiately at Oregon, appearing in 116 matches from 2016-19 for the Ducks. During her four seasons in Eugene, she totaled 1,011 kills and 306 digs in 406 sets played with a .272 hitting percentage, the ninth-highest in program history. Following an exceptional junior campaign in 2018, she garnered Honorable Mention All-America and All-Pacific North Region recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, as well as Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 accolades. She is the daughter of Major League Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Randy Johnson.
