Orlando Valkyries Make Roster Moves

Valkyries add former Trojan Skylar Fields

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Valkyries announce the signing of former USC standout and first-year pro Skylar Fields.

Fields, a 6-foot-3 outside hitter, last played for UYBA Volley Busto Arsizio in Italy. She spent three seasons at the University of Texas before transferring to USC in 2022.

“The addition of Skylar comes at a perfect time for our team,” said Valkyries head coach Amy Pauly. “As we head into the back half of the season and make our run for the playoffs, Skylar will be a valuable new piece to our puzzle and one that will help us tremendously.

“She’s a two-way player with experience on both pins, having played outside in college and getting international experience as an opposite in Italy. She brings instant fire power along with a championship mentality.”

Fields was the No. 1 ranked recruit by PrepVolleyball.com in 2018 coming out of Ridge Point High School in Missouri City, Texas. She was AVCA Southwest Region Freshman of the Year and made the AVCA All-America Third Team as a junior at Texas.

Fields took her game to the next level with the Women of Troy. As a senior in 2022, she made the AVCA All-America First Team and made it again in 2023.

“I’m super excited to be playing in Orlando,” said Fields, who will wear No. 55. “I can’t wait to be a part of professional volleyball in America. This is huge for women’s sports, and I’m so honored to be a part of that. Grateful for the opportunity and excited to get to work.”

In a related move, the Valkyries placed opposite hitter Melissa Evans on waivers in order to make room on the active roster to sign Fields.

The Valkyries play next against the Grand Rapids Rise on Saturday, April 6 at 7 p.m.  The match will take place at Grand Rapids’ Van Andel Arena and will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network. The Valkyries will then play Grand Rapids at home on Thursday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at Addition Financial Arena and will celebrate Military and First Responders Appreciation Night.
