ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Valkyries will battle against the Vegas Thrill on Wednesday, May 1 at 10 p.m. The match will take place at Lee’s Family Forum and will be streamed on YouTube.
Orlando (7-14) and Vegas (7-14) have identical records. This will be the third meeting between the two teams. The Valkyries lead the season series 2-0, with both matches going to four sets.
Valkyries Players to Watch:
Kaz Brown led the Valkyries with 16 total points (11 kills, three blocks and two aces) in the team’s last match against the San Diego Mojo. In 21 matches this season, Brown is averaging 12.3 points, 8.7 kills and 3.1 blocks. The 6-foot-4 middle blocker leads the league in blocks with 65. Brown has five years of professional volleyball experience, which included stops in Germany, France, Ukraine and Greece. Brown attended the University of Kentucky, where she was a standout player and earned three-time All-SEC and three-time AVCA All-Region honors. She ended her collegiate career as the Wildcats’ career record holder for total blocks, solo blocks, and block assists. Because of her standout play, Brown was selected to the US Collegiate National Team in 2016-17.
Adora Anae recorded 15 total points (13 kills, one block and one ace) against the Mojo. Anae leads Orlando in points (17.6) and kills (15.2) per match. The outside hitter clinched the Pro Volleyball Federation's Player of the Week title in week 3 of the 2024 season. Anae is a sixth-year pro, with experiences from various countries, including South Korea, Turkey, Puerto Rico, Ukraine and Greece. Prior to her professional career, Anae excelled at the University of Utah, where she earned recognition as the first-ever player named to the 1st-Team Pac-12 All-Freshman Team. She holds the record for the school's all-time single season kills (501) and was the first player in program history to achieve consecutive AVCA All-American honors, as well as being named to the All-AVCA First Team.
Thrill Players to Watch:
Hannah Maddux is averaging 11.7 points and 9.6 kills per match. In the Thrill’s last match against the Atlanta Vibe, she had six total points (four kills and two blocks) in three sets. Maddux, an outside hitter, was drafted by the Thrill as the 26th overall draft pick in the Pro Volleyball Federation's inaugural draft. She attended the University of South Alabama, where she led her team to the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Maddux ended her collegiate career third in the Sun Belt conference and 27th nationally in total kills, along with ranking third in the conference in total attacks.
Khat Bell is averaging 13.9 points, 11.5 kills and 2.1 blocks per match. Bell boasts season-highs of 30 points and 28 kills. In the last match versus the Valkyries in February, she recorded 27 total points (22 kills, three blocks and two aces). Bell is a night-year pro who plays the opposite hitter position. She is well accomplished overseas, winning MVP and Best Blocker of the Korean V-League. Bell played collegiately at the University of Texas, where she was a national champion in 2012. She is a three-time All-American, four-time Big-12 Champion with Texas and won the 2012 Cobra Magazine Defensive Player of the Year.
The two teams will face off one more time in the 2024 season.
