ATLANTA, Ga. (March 21, 2024) – The Atlanta Vibe (9-3) took down the Orlando Valkyries (5-8) in a dominant three-set sweep on Thursday night at Gas South Arena, marking the team’s ninth win of the season and fifth in a row.
Five-straight wins is the longest streak a team has seen in the Pro Volleyball Federation in its inaugural season, and the Vibe’s fourth sweep of the season is still the most of any team in the league.
The Vibe pulled out the quick three-set win with defense that kept Orlando at just .100 hitting and kept the Valkyries’ heavy hitter Adora Anae at just .063 hitting – her lowest of the season. Atlanta’s Anna Lazareva (15 digs, 2 blocks) Morgan Hentz (14 digs) and Marlie Monserez (11 digs, 7 block touches) held down the Vibe’s defense, while Leah Edmond (18 points) and Lazareva (15 points) helped the Vibe stay ahead of the Valkyries.
Setter Marlie Monserez finished with 43 assists, her fourth 40-assist match of the season and her best performance in a three-set match so far this season.
Middle Karis Watson and outside hitter Yossiana Pressley made their way back into the lineup in the match, finishing with three kills apiece (Watson went 3-for-3 with two blocks). Setter Whitney Bower made her first appearance in a home Vibe match after she was called up from Atlanta’s practice squad last week.
The Vibe now head to Columbus on Saturday – their last remaining PVF opponent – before returning home to host them on Wednesday, March 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Gas South Arena. Tickets for that match and all remaining Vibe matches are available at AtlantaVibe.com.
Notes
- Atlanta’s five-match win streak is now the longest the league has seen in its inaugural season after Columbus won four in a row earlier this year.
- Atlanta still owns more sweeps than any other team in the PVF with four after tonight’s win.
- The Vibe held the Valkyries to just 13 points in the second set, one off from the fewest points by a Vibe opponent in any set this season (12, twice).
