The Supernovas and Vibe have each won one of their previous matches against one another. Atlanta secured a five-set win in the first Pro Volleyball Federation match on January 24 in Omaha. The Supernovas enacted revenge a month later on Feb. 29 at Gas South Arena as Omaha dominated the Vibe in a 3-0 sweep.
Omaha precedes Thursday having won six of its last seven matches, dating back to the Supernovas’ first road win against the Grand Rapids Rise on Feb. 12.
Team captain Brooke Nuneviller leads the Supernovas into Thursday after delivering her best performance in a Supernovas uniform. In the March 9 match win over the Orlando Valkyries, Nuneviller recorded a season-high 20 kills on a season-best .313 hitting percentage to go along with 18 digs. As a result of her standout match, Nuneviller was named the Pro Volleyball Federation Player of the Week.
Fellow Omaha outside hitter Bethania de la Cruz enters the match with a league-leading 20 aces through 10 matches. That also includes the Pro Volleyball Federation record for most aces in one match (6) that de la Cruz pulled off twice. Once against Vegas on February 7 and again on February 12 at Grand Rapids.
Supernovas middle blocker Tori Dixon is tied for third in the league with 29 blocks. Despite playing in only seven matches, Bulgarian middle Hristina Vuchkova has recorded 20 blocks which is seventh in the league.
Outside hitter Leah Edmond is the player to watch for from Atlanta. The Kentucky graduate is second in the league with 173 kills in 10 matches. She’s totaled 198 points so far this season including 18 blocks and seven aces. Vibe libero Morgan Hentz has been one of the best defensive players in the league with 165 digs which is third in the Pro Volleyball Federation.
Since that sweep at the hands of Omaha, Atlanta has responded with three-straight wins including two wins over the Vegas Thrill and a sweep of the San Diego Mojo.
Following Thursday’s first-place match, the Supernovas will face the Orlando Valkyries for the fourth and final time this season on Saturday, March 16, in Omaha with first serve set for 6 p.m. CST at the CHI Health Center.
