Supernovas Ready for 2023 U.S. College Player Draft

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha Supernovas, Nebraska’s professional volleyball team in the newly-established Professional Volleyball Federation, will be heading to Atlanta on Monday, December 11 for the first-ever Pro Volleyball Federation College Player Draft. 

The draft is slated to begin at 9:00 a.m. CST at the Atlanta Marriott Perimeter Center where each of the Federation’s seven teams will make selections as part of a five-round draft consisting of the top elite talent in college volleyball.

The event will proceed as a snake-style draft with the Columbus Fury holding the No. 1 selection. The Supernovas will have the seventh and final pick of the first round but will turn around to have the first selection in the second round at No. 8 overall. Omaha will also make selections at No. 21, No. 22 and No. 35. 

“Our coaching staff, administrators, and ownership are all excited about the draft for our Omaha Supernovas,” Head Coach Shelton Collier said. “We have invested an incredible amount of time watching videos, attending live college matches, and talking with college coaches. It will be an epic day for players, families, and universities across the country to have players formally drafted in the Pro Volleyball Federation. We are certainly excited about drafting some talented players for our franchise.”

Trades can be made for players, draft picks, future considerations, or any combination thereof. For a college player to be drafted, they must meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in a four-year college or university in the United States or who will not graduate prior to August 2023 and has remaining eligibility to play collegiately during the 2023 college indoor volleyball; Or
  • Enrolled in a two-year junior college or community college in the United States and who will not graduate prior to August 2023 and has remaining eligibility to play collegiately during the 2023 college indoor season

The Supernovas are looking to add to their world-class roster that includes Olympians, U.S. National Team veterans, NCAA National Champions, and All-Americans. That roster consists of Anna Church, Bethania de la Cruz, Tori Dixon, Danielle Hart, Sydney Hilley, Gina Mancuso-Prososki, Allison Mayfield, Brooke Nuneviller, Yossiana Pressley, Nia Reed, Jess Schaben-Lansman, Jazz Schmidt, Natalia Valentín-Anderson, Hristina Vuchkova, Lindsey Vander Weide and Kendall White.

The Supernovas will begin their first-ever training camp on January 3, 2024, to finalize a 14-person roster for the inaugural season. The Supernovas will play 12 home matches and 12 away matches, for 24 matches in the 16-week regular season. The Supernovas will make history with the first-ever match of the Professional Volleyball Federation held at the CHI Health Center in Omaha on January 24, 2024, at 7 p.m. as the Supernovas take on the Atlanta Vibe.

After the regular season concludes, the Supernovas are aiming to be one of the top four squads in the standings that will compete for the Pro Volleyball Federation Championship in May. The location of the championship will be determined and announced at a later date.

REAL PRO VOLLEYBALL competition will officially begin in the United States with the Omaha Supernovas hosting the Atlanta Vibe in the first match in league history at the CHI Health Center in downtown Omaha on January 24, at 7:00 p.m. CT. Nebraska supports volleyball better than anyone, as evidenced by the more than 92,000 fans that turned out this season for a collegiate match at Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium in August, setting a new world record for the highest-attended women’s sporting event.

The Supernovas are one of seven U.S. teams for the 2024 inaugural season: Omaha Supernovas, Atlanta VibeOrlando ValkyriesColumbus FuryGrand Rapids RiseSan Diego Mojo, and Vegas Thrill. Three expansion teams, Dallas Pro Volleyball, Kansas City Pro Volleyball, and Indianapolis Pro Volleyball have been announced for 2025. In Season One, the Pro Volleyball Federation will be showcased in three different U.S. time zones. The League’s matches will take place on 67 different dates between January and May 2024, occurring on every day of the week.
