ORLANDO, Fla. – It was a historic day for the city of Orlando and professional volleyball, with the unveiling of the Orlando Valkyries, member club of the brand-new Pro Volleyball Federation, the only REAL PRO VOLLEYBALL league in the United States. The team is owned by Florida entrepreneur David Forman and will begin play in January 2024.
In ancient mythology, Valkyries are considered an elite force of female goddesses who represent Courage, Physical Strength, and the Empowerment of Women. The team logo features a Valkyrie goddess dressed in armor and preparing for battle. The moniker is surrounded by the city name, Orlando, and team name. Team colors of iron grey, gold, dark blue and light blue are prominently featured throughout.
“I am proud to help bring women’s professional volleyball to the United States and specifically Central Florida. The league is an emerging property and for Orlando to be awarded a team in the league’s inaugural season is something special,” said Forman. “My commitment to the city and to our fans is that the Valkyries will be competitive on the court, active and involved in our community, and will be doing our part to grow this great game as we strive to be the golden standard of a professional sports franchise.”
The Orlando Valkyries have also named leading sports marketing and management executive George Manias as President and Chief Operating Officer of the franchise. An industry leader, Manias has excelled and has been recognized for his successes leading the business side of sports for over twenty-five years. George has won championships in multiple sports leagues and has led major league organizations such as the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League, the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association and the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League. In addition, Manias has also been at the helm for sports marketing agencies such as Front Row Marketing and Legends Global Sales. The Valkyries President issued the following statement about his new role and the team’s brand identity:
