ATLANTA – Brian Doyon, a longtime coach for USA Volleyball and assistant coach at UCF from 2017-23, has been named the assistant coach for the Atlanta Pro Volleyball franchise, the team announced this week. Brian served as assistant coach alongside the Atlanta Head Coach, Todd Dagenais, for seven years.
“As we embark upon building a franchise from the ground up, it’s a significant advantage to have somebody of Brian’s caliber involved,” said Dagenais. “He was a significant part of our historic seasons at UCF, and his high IQ for International volleyball will come in handy as decisions are made.”
Together, the duo guided UCF to five consecutive American Athletic Conference (AAC) Championship from 2018-22. In 2022, they posted a 28-2 overall record while mirroring the program high of 19 conference wins from the year prior. The Knights also advanced to the second round of the tournament for the third time in four seasons.
Doyon arrived at UCF prior to the 2017 season and made an immediate impact, as the Knights averaged 23.8 wins in his six seasons after eclipsing 24+ wins only once prior to his arrival. In his last five years in Orlando, UCF went a remarkable 78-4 in AAC play, with undefeated conference seasons in two of those years.
With Atlanta, Doyon will serve as the Director of Training and Player Involvement. He was the defensive coordinator while overseeing practice design at UCF. “He will use his vast network of European contacts to help us find athletes who can contribute to our franchise being successful in the Pro Volleyball Federation,” Dagenais added
Working alongside Dagenais, Doyon served a co-head coach for USA Volleyball’s Collegiate National Team (CNT)-Indianapolis. The Syracuse, N.Y. native is also the head coach of the USA Volleyball Youth A-1 National Development team. All of the CNT programs are part of the USA Volleyball High Performance pipeline and are considered second tryouts for the U.S. Women’s National Team.
Prior to his post with USA Volleyball, Doyon served as head coach at the University of Montana for two seasons. He also spent six years as an assistant coach at the University of Utah and worked as the assistant director for Terry Pettit’s Summit on Extraordinary Coaching, which mentors collegiate coaches.
Doyon is married and the couple has two children.
