Columbus Fury Revealed As Team Identity

When Columbus’ first major women’s professional sports team takes the court for its inaugural season, it will do so as the Columbus Fury. The Pro Volleyball Federation team revealed its new identity, brand, and logo package during a press conference at Nationwide Arena, where it also announced that the downtown venue would be the home of the Fury starting in 2024.

The Columbus Fury will play a 24-match regular season schedule beginning in February 2024, with 12 of those matches being played at Nationwide Arena. Reservations for Columbus Fury season tickets are available now at www.ColumbusFury.com.

“This is a very exciting day for our family and for the city of Columbus,” said Jeff Gilger, who, along with his wife Beth, own the Pro Volleyball Federation team. “We considered many, many prospective names, and our goal was to come up with an identity that would be transformative within the market and represent the elegant power and athletic ability of our world-class athletes, along with an aggressive spirit that comes with breaking a glass ceiling and embracing new opportunities.”

Added Beth Gilger: “Professional women’s volleyball, played at its highest level, is a new opportunity in the United States. It’s a game that all generations of fans will fall in love with, and they will come to view our Columbus Fury athletes in the same light as they do some of the other extraordinary athletes who have made indelible impressions on our community for the remarkable accomplishments they have made on the athletic field or court and off of it. It’s time to Unleash the Fury!”

The Fury name is supported by a unique icon of a powerful athletic warrior that symbolizes the exceptionally talented athletes who will take the court and go to battle for Columbus as independent and selfless champions poised to conquer any challenge placed before them. She is not deterred by sacrifice and stands poised to make history, emboldened by the pride and passion that connects the people of Columbus and Central Ohio with all of their favorite sports teams and athletic heroes.

And the Fury moniker itself was very purposeful in its selection. This Fury is not about anger or vengeance. The Columbus Fury is a modern-day twist on an ancient mythology when the furies were feared women of the underworld. The Columbus Fury represents an uplifting furor and a frenzy of spirited passion set to wreak havoc on the volleyball court, while standing tall as heroines in the community and role models to adoring fans.

The Columbus Fury logo features very distinct colors. While it features its own unique shade of red, the fiery Fury Red in the team’s color palette is a nod to both the Ohio State women’s volleyball program and also the team’s Nationwide Arena brethren, the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Warrior Gold symbolizes the multifaceted warrior spirit of our athletes, at once combining triumph, achievement, and excellence with unyielding generosity and compassion. The Bold Pewter that adorns the face of the warrior signifies the inherent strengths of the metal of the same name — extremely versatile, and malleable enough to take on many forms and shapes, representative of the collection of women who make up the Columbus Fury, each displaying her own distinct personality without ever compromising the conjoined spirit and will that fortify them as a team.
